Are the good old days truly the good old days? It’s that time of year again. As the calendar flies through February and roars into March, many of our New Year’s Resolutions start to fade faster than snow melting. Some do stick around, like earnest efforts to maintain a healthier weight. Today, our hosts journey back in time seeking information on the trendiest diets and weight loss methods used by our ancestors. Learn all about how the weight was viewed from the time of the Greeks to now.  Stops along the way include William the Conqueror’s liquid diet, William Banting and the origin of the low-carb diet, Horace Fletcher’s mastication method, and the history’s other quirky weight-loss trends from corsets to laxatives to “obesity powder” and more! They’ll also explore society’s shifting views on body image and weight loss. And don’t you dare think absurd weight-loss fixes are a thing of the past! Today’s episode wraps up with an overview of viral methods to shed unwanted weight.
Disclosure: Please discuss realistic weight goals and potential dietary modifications with a healthcare professional. Today’s episode is not intended to provide any medical advice.

Are the good old days truly the good old days? Join our adventurous, but accident prone hosts as they explore historical treatments for many common diseases and maladies. Journey along as they learn all about how the medical professionals of yore treated everything from STIs to wounds, stomachaches, and more! They'll also learn the questionable origins of the phrase "blow smoke up your ass," questionable uses of chloroform, and the "medical" uses for tobacco. Are the good old days truly the good old days? Happy New Year! and what better topic for a new year than that one time the world ended? Everyone surely remembers how the world ended in 2012 as predicted by the Mayan calendar. It sure seemed like it was ending during COVID lockdowns in 2020. But hey, we're all still here in 2024! Let's celebrate and join our hosts as they sift through the prognosticators of the past to learn more about the times when the world was definitely, without a doubt, going to end. We'll party with the Essenes in the Mediterranean, learn from Martin Luther and his flatulent woodcuts, and listen while William Miller teaches us about the Great Disappointment. Then we head east to the Dami Mission and circle back on other ridiculous forecasters of doom, including the legendary, self-proclaimed Jeron "The Amazing Criswell" King.
Look, the doom-and-gloom crowd is bound to be right at some point... but for now, we can all roll our eyes and chuckle at the man in the sandwich board "the end is nigh!" sign yelling prophecies into a megaphone.

I mean hey, someone is bound to be right about the world ending at some point... right?
